The Weeknd called My Dear Melancholy the GOAT album he’s ever created.
In a new episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk, the Weeknd and his Hurry Up Tomorrow co-star Jenna Ortega went back and forth on all things goated.
Around the seven-minute mark in the video linked above, the singer pulled out a question card which asked the duo to name their GOAT Weeknd album.
“I actually really do like Dawn FM. I think that was just so interesting to me. I think Jim Carrey all throughout is genius,” said Ortega, referring to Carrey playing a fictional radio DJ throughout the LP.
“It’s just a different sound, which I really respect. I feel like you just took a different path than you had been with your music, so I think because it stands out to me—it’s uniqueness,” she added.
“My favorite is My Dear Melancholy. I don’t know if it’s an album, but that one,” Weeknd said. “I don’t have much to say on it.
I said what I had to say, there was no fillers and I did it really quick. It was very cathartic and in a flow state, and I just put it out. I don’t know, I was never able to really do that again.”
My Dear Melancholy was released in 2018, and was the singer’s first release since his blockbuster Starboy album in 2016. The six-track EP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making it his third consecutive No. 1 album in a row at the time.
Earlier in the episode, when the two were asked to name the GOAT Weeknd lyric, Ortega wondered if her choice would be a spoiler for their new film before settling on “Gasoline” from Dawn FM.
Meanwhile, Weeknd blanked on his own pick at first until Ortega teased him about not naming something from Hurry Up Tomorrow.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow, that’s a great lyric. Let’s go,” he joked.
Hurry Up Tomorrow, which sees the Weeknd making his big screen debut opposite Ortega and Barry Keoghan hits theaters on May 16.
