The Crow Hill Company has announced the release of new Vaults series instrument library. Free to download for a limited time, Lo-Fi Strings features the sounds of lush orchestral string recordings, processed through a vintage cassette deck to deliver a more nostalgic sonic palette.
First introduced in the 60s, the compact cassette revolutionised music accessibility, but it came with its quirks. The magnetic tape adds soft compression and saturation, flutter and “wow” that causes pitch drift, the occasional “drop-out” (meaning the sound sometimes mutes from the tape not reaching the tape head), and a subtle, omnipresent hiss. This all defined the sonic identity of a generation, and overtime these idiosyncrasies shaped a sound that we now associate with nostalgia, warmth, and analog realism.
With “LoFi Strings” we’ve honoured these imperfections and have brought them into the orchestral world.
Running in the Crow Hill App for Windows and Mac (VST/VST3, AU and AAX), Lo-Fi String is one of 6 Vaults series instrument currently available to download for free.
