Splice has released a new sample pack from acclaimed trap producer Southside. The first in a series of three, King of Trap distills the aggressive energy and raw grooves of a producer whose name is synonymous with the genre.
To celebrate the release of “King of Trap,” Splice is introducing an 808 music genre in its Create AI tool, which enables producers, songwriters, and instrumentalists to craft song starters and create stacks using compatible sounds from across Splice’s extensive catalog.
Southside’s extensive resume includes hits for Drake, Future, Meek Mill, Gucci Mane, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, and more. With the King of Trap series, he is making all the sonic ingredients that comprise his iconic sound—blistering sub-shaking 808s, moody cinematic melodies, and hard-hitting drums—available for producers to incorporate into their own music.
“I feel like producers should have a fair chance,” Southside says about releasing his vault of coveted sounds. “Nobody’s gonna do the same thing with the same beats. So I can give you everything I use, and it’s still not gonna be the same. But you might create something that’s 10 times better than me, I love that.”
Splice first tagged Southside to create a sample pack in 2019 with I Invented Trap, which ranks among the top 10 highest-performing releases of all time on Splice Sounds. In the years since, the co-founder of production collective 808 Mafia (Lex Luger, TM88) has enjoyed explosive popularity, collaborating with artists such as 21 Savage, Marshmello, and Metro Boomin, and kickstarting his DJ career at Coachella 2025.
