Shakira’s Style Evolution: From 1999 to Now

Shakira’s onstage and street style couldn’t be more different. When she’s not performing, the Colombian star’s fashion choices are casual, as she’s often strutting in jeans and a T-shirt.

But when she takes that stage, it’s a complete transformation. The “Te Felicito” singer’s outfits are dramatic, bold and fierce. From hip-hugging belly-dancing wraps and belts to shimmery dresses and flowy skirts, Shakira embraces a style that allows her to move and create her iconic dance moves with ease on stage, sometimes even barefoot.

One thing is consistent on and off the stage: Her signature loose, cascading curls always seem camera ready.

“Hair has always been such a big part of who I am on stage and in my everyday life,” Shakira wrote on social media in May 2025, teasing a new hair care line. “Looking back, I can see how much the way I chose to wear my hair defined the era I was in and the way I felt.” Shakira’s hair evolution has seen her go from long, straight black hair that was later dyed red (defining her ’90s rockera stage) to wavy blonde hair and bouncy long curls.

On the red carpet, Shakira is not one to make many risky choices, always opting for a classic look. Over the past years, she has stunned on the Met Gala red carpet wearing long trains that trail behind her that make her seem almost like she’s flowing across the carpet.
