Plughugger has announced the release of a new hardware-centric soundset for the Omnisphere virtual instrument by Spectrasonics. Based on the OP-XY hardware synthesizer by Teenage Engineering, Operator XY contains arpeggios and sequences, drums and percussion, pads and strings, synth and leads, textures and soundscapes, and more.
Just like with the OP-1, the OP XY is based on a large number of smaller synth engines, and each engine is designed to make a certain type of sound with controls that are both musical and to the point. Compared with the OP-1 the sounds from the XY are less experimental and more musical, taking inspiration from electrical keyboards, analog synths as well as digital modern synthesizers.
For Operator XY, Plughugger recorded waveforms from the basic to the complex and advanced, as well as drum sounds from the PO-32 Tonic / Sonic Charge MicroTonic drum synthesizer. Apart from with the single presets, they also combined another 40 sounds into layered multisounds.
The soundset also comes with a bonus soundset based on sounds and recordings from Native Instruments Reaktor. Compared with the Operator XY soundset, Assember is darker, more dissonant and more unforgiving, making it into a great sonic companion to the Operator XY.
Available for the introductory price of 9.90 EUR (regular 39.90 EUR), the soundset contains a total of 284 sounds. Use coupon code OPXY at the checkout to get the discount, which expires September 14th, 2025.
