Nicki Minaj’s beef with Jay-Z over Tidal has cropped up again — and this time it’s been brought back to life by the Barbz.
On Thursday (July 3), the Pink Friday rapper responded to a series of X posts from fans who claimed Jigga owes Nicki money and an apology for not paying her everything she was owed after he sold Tidal.
“#jayz owes Nicki Minaj money & a apology,” one fan wrote, while a second said: “#JayZ should of paid Nicki Minaj her cut of the Tidal deal.” Nicki responded to them with a laughing-crying emoji and laughing with tears emoji respectively.

A third post from X user @OnikaPoppin gave more details on Hov’s Tidal deal. Jay launched the platform in 2015 for $56 million in partnership with 15 artist partners, including Nicki, J. Cole, Rihanna, Madonna and more. At that time, according to Billboard, each act was gifted three percent in equity in exchange for creating content and driving value for the subscription service.

In 2021, Jay sold the majority ownership of Tidal to Jack Dorsey’s Square company for $302 million. That means each artist partner should have pocketed millions for helping to launch the platform. Initial reports said that Square purchased a $297 million majority stake, which means three percent equity came out to $8.91 million.
However, subsequent reports revealed that the number was actually $302 million; based on that, each artist should have taken home $9.06 million.
Last September, during a rant on X, Nicki Minaj claimed she didn’t receive that, sharing that she was only offered $1 million as a payout. She posted that she was “scammed” and claimed she was offered the paltry sum to be “silenced.” She said she declined the amount and slammed Tidal for allegedly spreading misinformation about artists’ return on investment after Jay sold Tidal.
On Thursday, Nicki also responded to an X post regarding a conspiracy theory connected to her possibly facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting her ex-manager. In January, the former manager reportedly filed an assault and battery lawsuit against her.
