Lunacy Audio is once again offering CUBE Mini for free. The plugin normally costs $49, and I don’t know when this offer ends, so grab it while you can.
We covered this as a limited-time freebie back in October 2025, so if you missed that window, here’s another chance.
CUBE Mini is a scaled-down version of Lunacy Audio’s CUBE, a 3D virtual instrument powered by vector synthesis. Now, vector synthesis sounds fancy and perhaps even scary, but trust me, this one is very easy to use (that’s actually the whole point).
Basically, if you’re into synths and sound design but not really into tweaking endless parameters, or if you’re bored with your current synth setup, I think this one is for you.
CUBE Mini puts the whole layering, modulation, and blending workflow into an intuitive 3D interface. And it’s tons of fun to explore, even with the limited sound sources in the free version.
The workflow is simple. You get a cube with eight corners (duh!), each with its own sampler. You load sounds into the corners and blend them by dragging an orb around the 3D space.
The plugin calls these motion paths “orbits,” which are presets designed to automatically crossfade between the samplers.
This crossfading action lets you create evolving textures and sounds. You can also randomize the orb’s path and adjust its speed for quick results.
The free version comes with over 120 presets and 35 sound sources, including guitars, pianos, analog synths, vocals, and ethnic woodwinds.
Each sampler has its own editor where you can reverse, loop, and arpeggiate sounds, adjust envelopes and filters, set key ranges, and control stereo width. There’s also a built-in effects suite with 13 modules, including filters, EQ, distortion, bitcrusher, compressor, chorus, phaser, delay, reverb, and a limiter.
The preset generator lets you randomize sounds, orbits, and effects to quickly stumble into something new. CUBE Mini also supports expansion packs, so you can add more sounds and presets over time.
And if you want to go further, you can upgrade to the full CUBE ($149). The full version adds 108 sound sources, 500+ presets, modulation (4 LFOs and a macro), a full orbit customizer with 50+ orbits, and drag-and-drop support for your own WAV and SFZ files.
There’s also a CUBE Bundle ($399) that includes everything plus all expansion packs, 350+ instruments, and 1,000+ presets.
The free CUBE Mini is, of course, more limited, but it’s a solid starting point and a good way to find out whether the CUBE workflow clicks for you.
CUBE Mini runs on macOS 10.15+ and Windows 10+ in AU, VST3, and AAX formats. It requires 8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended).
