Lizzo had something to say after learning her Grammy-winning anthem “About Damn Time” was blasted at Donald Trump’s military-themed birthday celebration in Washington, D.C. on Friday (June 14), a dual event marking the Army’s 250th anniversary and the president’s 79th birthday.
The singer and rapper responded on TikTok by posting a clip of the performance alongside a video of herself visibly annoyed, captioned with a blunt message: “cease & desist.”

While it’s unclear whether her team has taken formal legal steps, the message was loud and clear—Lizzo wants no association with Donald Trump.
The performance of “About Damn Time” at the parade raised eyebrows, especially given Lizzo’s outspoken criticism of Donald Trump and his policies.

Just days earlier, she took to Bluesky to condemn the administration’s immigration tactics following a wave of ICE raids in Los Angeles.
“There’s no such thing as ‘illegal’, there are no ‘borders’, no one really ‘owns’ the land on this planet,” she wrote.
She went further, calling out the systemic issues behind immigration enforcement: “When people finally understand that these terms and ideas are tools for racism and capitalism we can truly be free. We can finally see the oppressors for who they are.”
In another post, she pointed to the contradiction of ICE agents targeting Mexican communities: “The irony of an ICE agent forcing a Mexican person off of their ancestral land when that agent’s ancestors are European immigrants is just…”
Lizzo also weighed in on the broader political climate, writing: “Someone said what’s happening right now in LA isn’t immigration policy—it’s regime prep Wheeeeewwwww.”
She didn’t hide her frustration with those supporting these policies either: “And still… there are people who voted for this who are going to sleep with a smile on their faces pleased as pie… It’s a wild world y’all.”
The singer also reacted to a Florida sheriff’s controversial statements about protestors. The sheriff had said law enforcement would “kill” anyone who escalated peaceful protests into violence.
