Originally developed as an in-house effect for their Vapor Keys and Lofi Keys instruments, Vapor Dimension was later released as a fully standalone plugin designed to add movement, color, and width to your recordings.
It adds instant texture and character to synths, pads, guitars, vocals, or even drums. I like the retro feel you get with it, basically a quick mix of various lo-fi effects that you can instantly apply to your audio.
Vapor Dimension uses 20 different DSP algorithms inspired by vintage modulation hardware like classic choruses, phasers, and harmonizers.
That said, despite the relatively complex processing under the hood, the plugin keeps things simple on the surface, just how I like it. It has just two main controls: Type and Modulation.
The Type knob lets you choose between different flavor categories, from soft and subtle to bold and dramatic. Once you find the right mode, Modulation gives you fine control over the intensity and motion of the effect.
It’s one of those plugins where minimal controls don’t limit your creativity but actually enhance the workflow.
Another cool addition is the Smart Random control, which generates new combinations at the press of a button. This makes it quick and easy to come up with unique (sometimes crazy but sometimes pretty cool) textures you might not dial in manually.
Vapor Dimension also includes 17 factory and artist presets to give you an overview of what’s possible. But you really don’t need presets with a plugin like this one.
While it works best as a colorizing effect on melodic content, you can also apply it to drums, basslines, and even full mixes. It also works quite well for creating lo-fi atmospheres and adding a retro feel to cinematic and ambient projects.
You can control the Dry/Wet balance and tweak the input and output volumes to suit your mix. It’s also CPU-friendly, so you can layer it across multiple tracks without slowing down your DAW.
Vapor Dimension is available in VST3 and AU formats for Windows (7 and above) and macOS (10.11 and above), including support for M1/M2 Macs. It’s a 64-bit plugin and runs in all major DAWs.
