Kage Music Korea has released KAGE Clarity1, a free beta plugin for Windows (VST3), marking what seems to be the first entry in their new line of compact “three-knob” audio effects.
This release follows Kage Music Korea’s free KG Series bundle, which made quite an impression among BPB readers. The early GUI designs drew some comparisons to Analog Obsession’s style, but the developer was quick to respond.
They issued a series of updates, engaged directly with users in our comments section, and improved their visual style, all of which were promising signals from a new developer.
The new Clarity1 plugin shows a step in a somewhat different direction, both visually and conceptually.
In essence, Clarity1 is a top-end enhancer designed to add polish and presence to your tracks. It’s somewhat similar to Maag Audio’s famous Air Band or Slate Digital’s Fresh Air.
In the case of Clarity1, the “Clarity” knob drives the effect, enhancing brightness and definition without resorting to typical (and sometimes harsh) EQ boosts.
The exact processing under the hood isn’t specified, but to me it feels like it could be a hybrid of EQ, saturation, and dynamic enhancement, perhaps with a touch of multi-band compression (that’s just me guessing, though).
Whatever the secret sauce, the result is a fairly smooth, airy lift that can bring vocals, synths, or acoustic guitars to life in seconds. That said, it can sound a bit harsh when the clarity goes above 50%, so it’s best to go with more subtle settings.
I would also avoid using this on multiple channels across the mix because tools like this, when overused, can cause more harm than good. It’s best to save it for one or two elements of the mix, ideally ones that don’t play simultaneously.
In addition to the Clarity knob, you can also change the shaping presets, each offering a slightly different flavor of high-end enhancement. A pair of input and output controls is also included, but beyond that, Clarity1 keeps things super minimal.
The current beta version of Clarity1 is available for free download from the developer’s website. Simply hit the orange download button, and the file will start downloading immediately. It’s Windows-only (VST3) for now, and as a beta, there might be some tweaks ahead before the final release.
Kage Music Korea already hinted that another plugin in the series called KAGE Suboom1 is coming soon, so this three-knob concept might become a recurring theme.
