Jay Versace Disagrees That DDG ‘Paved the Way’ for Music …

Jay Versace has shared his thoughts on recent comments made by DDG about content creators who dabble in music.

On Friday (July 4), a clip from a recent DDG stream circulated on X, where he made the claim that he “paved the way” for creators-turned-artists like Reggie (a.k.a. Lil Rodney Son).

“I’m the n***a that paved the way, brother,” he continued. “I’m the n***a that did this shit first. I’m the n***a that made it cool for muhfuckas to make music from YouTube and do all this other shit. So you need to respect me.”

The video prompted Jay Versace to repost the video and write “lol,” although the producer denied that DDG was talking about him. Versace, who got his start on Vine, has produced for the likes of Doja Cat, SZA, Boldy James and more.

“Im cool w ddg i just disagree w what he said,” Versace said in a follow-up post on X. “Music and content creation has always been aligned ion think anyone made it cool because theres always been youtubers / streamers that made music that gained them even more success.”

He close out his statement by adding: “There’s no one person that started anything imo.”

DDG responded to the post, joking that Versace has a “double barrel shotgun nose,” to which the producer responded with a video of India Love shouting him out, captioning it: “india love it tho.”

DDG replied: “What talent got to do with your nose tho gang.”

One fan saw the exchange and weighed in, telling Jay that he didn’t pave the way for music content creators either, despite never making that claim. “I know i didnt im never saying that,” Jay replied.

Another fan backed up Jay, writing: “Jay said ‘lol’ & mfs started crashing ….relax,” to which the creator replied: “putting words in my mouth and everything.”

Since Versace claims to have known DDG since they were “kids,” they might be long overdue for a collaboration, although DDG released his new album, Blame the Chat, in May.
