Impact Soundworks has released a new Kontakt Player-powered sample library featuring a full choir of vintage handbells as well as handchimes. Unlike many sampled handbells, these have been recorded in an intimate studio environment with very little reverb, so they can be used in many different contexts.
The instruments of Handbells were sampled with the level of detail that Impact Soundworks has become known for, including generous round robins (natural variations on repeated notes) and all essential handbell playing techniques. Due to the recording environment and lack of overwhelming natural reverb, the bells have a warm and articulate tone, with absolute clarity even when used to play rapid passages. The sound and playing style can be customized with just a few clicks, from a bright, soft shimmer to a more dynamic, percussive performance.
The handbells are decades old, created by the historical Philadelphia-based Schulmerich company, and have a full three-octave range; the corresponding two octaves of handchimes are intended to accompany the handbells but can also be played alone.
“We wanted this virtual instrument to sound totally real, so that you can not just get beautiful sounds, but actually play written handbells music accurately. That’s where we’re setting the bar.” said Impact Soundworks owner Andrew Aversa.
Handbells is available to purchase for $69 USD at the Impact Soundworks store. Crossgrades are available for some customers.
