Gianni Chiarello, a UK-based guitarist and educator with a wealth of experience in the music industry, has released Nice Stomps! Plugins – a collection of free guitar-based plugins for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
From Berklee College of Music to iconic studios and stages around the world, his résumé has some stellar highlights.
Gianni has put that knowledge and experience to good use as a music tutor and through the release of several guitar tuition guidebooks.
You can check out some of Ginanni’s jazz/funk/rock-inspired music on his website; I love Breaking Point from the album Gianni Chiarello & The Same Beat.
Nice Stomps! is a collection of plugins that currently includes AmpBrowser, StompBrowser, Easy Amp, DelayChorus, and CaliforniaDrive.
AmpBrowser and StompBrowser are both powered by Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) and connected to the free Tone3000 community.
Tone3000 is a platform where you can download gear models (NAM profiles) and IRs, and capture/share your own.
AmpBrowser and StompBrowser provide a speedier workflow by removing the need to download individual files.
Both plugins offer a search-and-load interface that provides immediacy that the typical Tone3000 workflow doesn’t. You’ll need a free Tone3000 account to use these two plugins, and Gianni has included clear step-by-step instructions in the product manuals.
With AmpBrowser, you can select Full Rig profiles or DI amp profiles, which allow you to use your own IR loader and cabinet impulses for more control over tone.
Additionally, AmpBrowser and StompBrowser feature basic built-in controls.
Next up is Easy Amp, a NAM-powered plugin that delivers warm vintage amp tones with a focus on simplicity. Along with Drive and Tone controls, Easy Amp features a Room reverb, compression to smooth the top end, and HP/LP filters.
It also features a mid-boost around 1 kHz and a Bright switch boosting around 5 kHz.
Windows users can also check out Lamprey’s Alter, a free modular guitar amp plugin.
The last two plugins in the collection are DelayChorus and CaliforniaDrive.
DelayChorus combines two independent delay lines, a tri-style chorus, and tape-saturation in a simple interface.
CaliforniaDrive is a punchy overdrive pedal that adds character without becoming too aggressive.
These plugins are available in 64-bit AU and VST3 formats for macOS (10.13 or later), Windows (10 or later), and Linux (Ubuntu 20.04 or later).
Additional instructions for the Linux installation are available on the download page.
The download process is quick and easy after you provide an email address, and while the collection is free, you can donate to the developer.
