TRIAD is a three-band version of one of my favorite Plugin Alliance plugins, Unfiltered Audio’s BYOME (Build Your Own Modular Effect). It lets you apply different effect chains to the low, mid, and high frequencies of your signal.
The addition of multiband processing alone opens up tons of possibilities, but what really sold me on TRIAD is how easy it is to dive deep and create unique multiband FX chains. Despite the myriad of features, the interface doesn’t feel cluttered or cryptic.
From the moment you load TRIAD, it feels like a tool made by sound designers, for sound designers. The layout is clear, the modulation system is intuitive, and there’s virtually no learning curve (assuming you understand how virtual patch cables work), which is unusual for something this powerful.
You can solo or mute individual bands, tweak cutoff points in real-time using the visualizer, and instantly audition new ideas using the Permutation engine, which makes it fun to explore different FX setups.
Of course, TRIAD’s main advantages is the sheer level of control and flexibility it offers. You’re not just applying effects to different bands; you can route those bands in various ways—parallel, serial, mid-side, left-right—and completely reshape how the effects interact.
It’s like powering up your DAW with a modular multi-FX rack with surgical frequency control. You can build subtle tape-style saturation into your highs, throw a crushed delay on your mids, and slap a gated reverb on your lows, then have them all synced to your host’s tempo and all deeply modulated.
TRIAD is the kind of sound design plugin where you start tweaking for five minutes and end up spending an hour because it’s simply fun to explore the available options. You can go simple and use it to surgically clean up a mix, get creative with rhythmically shifting textures, or completely deconstruct a sound.
Even the presets are enough to get inspired. They cover everything from bread-and-butter utility multiband FX combos to out-there experimental chains. And for those of us used to modular environments like Max for Live or Reaktor, TRIAD feels instantly familiar but even more immediate.
