Golden Screw Studio offers the Ethereal Echoes, an ambient instrument library for Kontakt 7.6.0, for free for a limited time with the code Ethereal4FREE.
Ethereal Echoes was clearly designed with ambient soundscapes in mind, but after spending some time with it, I was pleasantly surprised by how much more it actually offers.
Yes, the atmospheric pads and textural layers are the headline here, but I was surprised by the analog-inspired pads, plucks, and bass patches that are also in there.
These give the library a subtle retro and synthwave edge that I didn’t expect.
If you enjoy that crossover between ambient drift and vintage synth character, this one lands right in the sweet spot. But yes, the atmospheric stuff is crazy good, and some of the presets even reminded me of the iconic PlayStation 1 sound.
The library includes 75 presets, built from 765 24-bit samples, covering pads, textures, drones, plucks, basses, experimental tones, and a solid range of synth patches.
I checked out the pads first, and they have that washed-out feel that works awesomely for ambient cues. But, again, the analog basses were equally fun. Some have that slightly rounded, analog-like punch that sits great underneath airy chords.
As with most Golden Screw Studio releases, the interface offers a decent amount of control without being overwhelming. You get Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Compressor, Lo-Fi, Tape, and a pair of extra FX slots, along with filter controls and ADSR shaping.
It’s enough to take any preset in a very personal direction, but it never feels like a full-blown synth. I found the Tape and Lo-Fi options super convenient for adding a bit of grit to the smoother patches.
The only real drawback is that Ethereal Echoes does not work in the free Kontakt Player. You’ll need the full version of Kontakt 7.6.0 or later.
That obviously limits who can use it, but if you already own full Kontakt, this is worth grabbing for the ambient and cinematic palette alone.
