Audio Plugin Deals is offering Ink Slide by Ink Audio for free for the next two weeks. The library normally costs $60 and requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt.
This is one of the better Audio Plugin Deals freebies I’ve seen in a while. They sometimes give away stuff that I wouldn’t necessarily recommend as a must-have, but this one is top-notch.
Ink Audio makes some very interesting Kontakt libraries, and I was actually close to buying their full collection on sale last year. I was trying to resist GAS at the time, so I didn’t pull the trigger on that purchase, but I don’t know… looking at their catalog again now, skipping the deal might have been a mistake.
They specialize in sampling acoustic instruments, but not the kind of stuff we’ve already seen a million times. Everything has a twist or a specific flavor, and nothing on their website feels generic.
Their body percussion and whistle libraries are what caught my attention first, based on the demos. Then I saw the whole bundle and was tempted to get it, and then I told myself I already own too many sounds (which is true, not gonna lie, but still… I regret it, haha).
So, I consider this free copy of Ink Slide a consolation prize for anyone who held off like I did.
Ink Slide focuses on the softer side of slide guitar rather than on flashy soloing. It was recorded with a glass slide on a neck pickup, run through a Boss CS-3, and then a 1176 compressor, giving it a naturally mellow tone.
It fits well into indie folk, cinematic scoring, or ambient production. Pretty much anywhere you need organic texture and movement from a slide guitar without necessarily making it the centerpiece.
The library is split into two sections. The first is built around 21 Phrase Sets, all time-synced and diatonic. White keys trigger phrases that resolve on the note you play; black keys trigger complementary pentatonic phrases. The pitch bend follows the major scale, giving you a natural place to steer a phrase as it ends.
The keyswitch system lets you transpose up or down 7 semitones from C, and there’s a nice detail in the Straight phrase: white keys bend while black keys don’t, which gets you into pedal steel territory.
The second section gives you direct control over articulations. Eight keyswitchable slide gestures are available: Fast, Slow, and Short Slides; Up Down, Down Up, and Wild Vibrato; and Fast and Slow Falls.
For the main articulations, velocity and mod wheel work together to control slide direction. There are also controls for envelope, filter, drive, and an impulse response reverb.
Ink Slide requires the full version of Kontakt 6.8 or later (Kontakt Player is not supported) and about 1.5 GB of storage. It runs on macOS and Windows.
