Future Audio Workshop is offering the SubLab bass synthesizer for just $10 at Plugin Boutique until September 29th.
SubLab is a sub-bass synthesizer built for modern hip-hop, trap, and electronic music producers. The idea behind the synth engine is to create custom bass and kick sounds, especially 808 bass sounds and similar patches.
The plugin combines a sample engine, a subtractive synth, and the proprietary X-Sub™ oscillator, which maintains consistent sub-bass presence across all playback systems.
You can layer your own kick samples with analog-style waveforms and the sub engine to create powerful low-end sounds. It’s basically a sampler and synth combo for bass.
There’s support for drag-and-drop sample import, and it hides one of my favorite features here. SubLab will auto-detect pitch on import, which really streamlines the workflow for quickly designing chromatic 808s and other bass sounds.
The synth section includes standard waveforms like sine, triangle, saw, and square with dedicated envelopes for pitch, volume, and filter modulation.
The sampler can loop samples, apply filters, and tweak start points, and it also features a built-in maximizer for added impact and loudness.
I also like how the Synth and Sample layers can be processed separately with distortion, compression, and filtering. This means you can enhance the mids in the synth layer while keeping the subs intact.
SubLab’s main feature, though, is the X-Sub™ engine. It’s a psychoacoustic sub-bass oscillator that anchors the sound in the 30–65Hz range. It ensures sub-energy remains present regardless of processing applied to the other layers.
Having this kind of control of the low end is perfect for tuning your sub-bass to cut through both on big systems and on smaller speakers.
Six signature Bass Packs are included in the package, with classic 808s and sounds recreated from analog gear. SubLab also comes bundled with 250 kick and 808 samples from machines like the TR-808, MFB 522, Dave Smith Tempest, and more.
If you want more sounds for SubLab, there’s a bundle of seven expansion packs on sale for $10. You can also pick up SubLab XL for $25 or grab it as a $10 crossgrade after purchasing and activating the original SubLab, which gives you both versions for $20 (thanks to BPB reader Steven for this tip!).
SubLab runs on Windows 8+ and macOS 10.11+, supporting VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats. It’s compatible with all major DAWs and is NKS-ready for use with Maschine and Komplete Kontrol.
You’ll need to be online initially to activate it, but SubLab can be used offline afterward.
