These Blueprint releases from Fracture Sounds are incredible, as they provide us with ridiculously high-quality sounds for free, and they are compatible with the free Kontakt Player 8 (and later versions). Their latest release is the free Blueprint: Brass Ensemble library.
To download Brass Ensemble, you’ll have to create an account or log in to your existing Fracture Sounds account.
Brass Ensemble is the latest addition to the Blueprint series, and I can already tell it’s going to be one of my favorites.
As I previously mentioned regarding the older Gentle Brass release, brass libraries don’t always sound authentic, and when they do, it stands out.
Brass Ensemble sounds fantastic, and more importantly, it sounds believable when you start to put patterns and sequences together.
Some libraries sound real when you play whole notes at a slow tempo, but unravel when you want to move around a little more.
Fracture Sounds does a great job in recreating the behaviour of these instruments, not only capturing the sound.
The Brass Ensemble features the ensemble patch from the premium Majestic Brass Soloists library, which is currently on sale and worth checking out (correct as of October 7, 2025).
The patch combines the trumpet, French horn, trombone, and tuba. It provides the foundation of a great brass section and ample power.
Given the origin of the patch, it’s no surprise to know that Brass Ensemble sounds bolder and more majestic than the softer and more humble Gentle Brass.
What both libraries have in common is that they deliver the sound and feel of quintessential British brass, recorded by some of the best players in the north of England.
You can achieve a lot with Brass Ensemble; it features several articulations (Sustain, Staccato, and Performance Shorts), three mic positions (close, mid, and far), and global controls to shape the sound.
The global controls include Dynamics, Colour (EQ), Stereo Width, and Reverb. You can make the sound wider, brighter, and more expressive, and place it exactly where you want it in a mix.
You can also adjust the sample start time to reduce latency or enhance realism.
Fracture Sounds has a real winning formula with these Blueprint libraries, and I hope they never stop; I love them.
Be sure to check out Textural Cello and Thumb Piano, too.
