Fetty Wap has offered fans an update from behind bars with his first new prison photo since last year.
In a post shared on Threads this week, Fetty Wap shared a photo of himself standing against a wall with his arms folded.
“Free Zoo till Zoo Free,” he wrote alongside the photo, which he signed off as “Mr.1738.”
The last time he shared a photo was in 2024, when he posted a now-deleted picture on Instagram alongside a fellow inmate.
“You never no [sic] where life a take you but you find some good ppl along the way,” Fetty wrote in the caption. “I got a few homies I met during my time down that’s real stand up n***as .. my brudda Tay Banga da Prez & Da Mobsta.”
Why is Fetty Wap in prison?
Fetty Wap was named in a sweeping federal indictment in October 2021 that accused him of involvement in a criminal enterprise that distributed drugs across the country.
He was arrested that same month on federal drug charges and was initially released on a $500,000 bond the following month, but he returned to jail in August 2022 after he violated the conditions of his release ahead of the trial.
He and various others were accused of obtaining over 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine from June 2019 to June 2020.
How long was Fetty Wap sentenced for?
At his trial, Fetty Wap pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and was sentenced to six years behind bars.
Has Fetty Wap dropped new music while in prison?
Despite his current status, Fetty Wap has been able to drop new music behind bars. In 2023, he released his 17-track album King Zoo, which featured his viral hit “Sweet Yamz.”
The record also featured an update for fans, whom he thanked for supporting him throughout his legal troubles.
“I just wanna say I appreciate all the fans. Waiting, being patient. Rocking out with me, thugging it out with me,” he said. “I just wanna let y’all know I appreciate y’all.”
Is Fetty Wap seeking a presidential pardon?
Earlier this year, Fetty Wap’s sister called for her brother’s sentence to be commuted so that he could return home to his family. More recently, he dropped a song inspired by his inmate number alongside a petition calling for his sentence to be commuted or pardoned by President Donald Trump.
“Unfortunately, there have been many misunderstandings surrounding his current legal situation,” the petition reads. “Contrary to widespread and often exaggerated headlines, Fetty Wap was not charged with trafficking multiple substances or leading a drug operation. He pleaded guilty to a single count: conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. That is the only charge for which he currently serves a federal sentence.”
