The Eminem documentary, Stans, will play exclusively at AMC Theaters next month for a limited run.
Variety is reporting that the film, which explores Slim Shady’s impact on hip-hop through the eyes of his most devoted fans (his “stans”), will be in theaters from August 7 through August 10.
The term “stan” originates from Eminem’s 2000 hit single, “Stan,” which featured Dido and sampled the singer’s song, “Thank You.” The song tells the story of an exceptionally devoted Em fan, who went so far as to murder his devoted wife to prove his devotion to the Detroit native.
The term has since entered the pop culture zeitgeist and is used in various contexts, including “Stan Twitter,” which refers to devoted fans of particular artists — not just Eminem — on social media.
AMC Theaters is handling the rollout of the film. The theater company previously worked with Taylor Swift to broadcast her concert documentary, The Eras Tour, and with Beyoncé to broadcast the Renaissance concert documentary.

Stans will also receive an awards-qualifying one-week run at AMC Empire 25 in New York City’s Times Square.
Because the documentary will only be in theaters for three days, discounts and promotions are not eligible for use.
Eminem fans across the globe will also be able to see the doc worldwide, as Trafalgar Releasing will take over the international distribution, putting Stans in 1,600 theaters in 50 territories worldwide.
“The filmmaker uses recreations, archival footage and new interviews to explore the highs and lows of Eminem’s career,” reported the outlet. “The 15-time Grammy winner, for songs including ‘Lose Yourself,’ ‘Without Me,’ ‘Stan,’ ‘Real Slim Shady’ and ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ served as a producer on “Stans” with Paul Rosenberg, Stuart Parr, Antoine Fuqua, Tony DiSanto, David Schiff.”
