Filmmaker Josh Webber has requested that Dame Dash be arrested for failing to comply with the court-ordered asset seizure of his copyrights and films.
In a legal letter obtained by Complex, the law office of Brown & Rosen LLC that represents Webber claimed to a judge that Dash “did not provide the links or the United States Copyright Office depository requests” by Aug. 7.
The document also mentions social media posts from Dash to prove his noncompliance.
“Dash is posting on social media about his ‘lake life’ and ‘bucket hats,’ along with having the audacity to post that Mr. Dash has signed the ‘White Lesbian Aaliyah’ to Bluroc Records,” it reads.
Because of these issues, Webber’s team wants Dash to be issued an arrest warrant and to be ordered to appear in court on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m.
The news of Dash’s alleged noncompliance comes days after Webber’s attorney told the court that Dash and his company, Poppington LLC, had begun complying with the order to turn over copyrights and films, but had yet to complete it.
At that time, Dash’s attorney, Natraj Bhusahan, reassured Webber’s attorney that the outstanding ownership certificates would be provided to them by no later than Aug. 7.
Dash and Webber’s legal battle continues, even though Webber was awarded $800,000 in his defamation lawsuit against the Roc-a-fella co-founder. The case came out of a battle over credit for the movie Dear Frank.
In July, Dash spoke about the situation in an interview with The Art of Dialogue, suggesting that the companies that he’s been forced to sell to satisfy the judgment don’t mean much to him.
“I don’t have too much in my name,” Dash explained. “So the things that are in my name are companies that I don’t even know exist, don’t make money, and are from years ago.”
Dash also suggested that losing $800,000 is considered a “W in anybody that’s in a real businessman’s world,” before claiming that anyone who’s worried about what’s in another man’s pockets “is gay.”
