Busta Rhymes will receive the 2,818th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, August 1, at 11:30 a.m. PT at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard.
According to an official release from The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the inductions, the legendary artist is being honored in the Recording category, with Big Boy emceeing and Chris Rock, LL Cool J, and Chuck D as speakers.
His, of course, is a career that needs no introduction: he has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, earned 12 Grammy nominations, and posted seven Top 10 debuts on the Billboard 200. His catalog claims over 60 million gold and platinum certifications.
Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, Busta (real name: Trevor Smith) launched with Leaders of the New School before breaking out solo with 1996’s The Coming. When Disaster Strikes… became the turning point, followed by classics like “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” “Break Ya Neck,” and “Touch It.”
Peers echo that legacy—Jay-Z and KRS-One have called him “the greatest performer of all time,” while Phife Dawg dubbed him “the James Brown of hip-hop.”
Past collaborators include Dr. Dre, Janet Jackson, Eminem, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne, and Dave Chappelle.
Past honors before the Walk of Fame induction include the 2022 BMI Icon Award and a Guinness World Record for most words in a hit single (“Break Ya Neck”).
On screen, he has appeared in Higher Learning, Finding Forrester, Narc, and Shaft, and lent his voice to The Rugrats Movie.
He also appears in Paramount’s The Naked Gun reboot, opening August 1. The film also stars Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson.
On the philanthropy side, Busta Rhymes serves as a Global Citizens Ambassador, a St. Jude Children’s Hospital Ambassador, and MusiCares’ first Hip-Hop Ambassador.
