TurboAlexis, the Alesis MidiVerb/MidiFex emulation for Windows and Linux, is the latest free release by the developer ArtV.
TurboAlexis by ArtV is a free plugin emulating the Alesis MidiVerb and MidiFex.
TurboAlexis is available as a VST3 plugin for Windows and Linux.
Don’t worry if you’re on macOS; you can download MDV II by Temecula DSP if you want some retro Alesis reverb.
ArtV doesn’t just focus on the MidiVerb II; it offers classic reverb effects from the original MidiVerb, the MidiVerb II, and the MidiFex.
The rackmount MidiVerb II is perhaps the most popular in the series, but the original MidiVerb and MidiFex still have a strong following, partly thanks to their quirky appearance.
Credit where it’s due: TurboAlexis is a JUCE-based plugin based on the code for Thement’s Midiverb Emulator.
While ArtV acknowledges the heavy lifting done by Thement, the developer looked to make some notable enhancements, starting with a more user-friendly interface.
The more refined interface includes a Predelay parameter, serial lowpass/highpass filtering, stereo width, panning, and more.
Despite the popularity of the now-iconic Alesis hardware, it was never the most flexible (which holds true across all models).
One enhancement in that area that ArtV has made to the original Thement emulation is the ability to adjust the algorithm/program size from 25% to 200%. Adjusting the algorithm’s size opens up more potential applications, making the plugin more flexible.
You also have various types of modulation with adjustable rate and amount. There are eight selectable modulation combinations to play with.
The developer welcomes feedback from all and suggestions from anyone who knows the hardware well.
