Safari Pedals is giving away 10,000 free Gorilla Drive licenses exclusively to BPB readers.
Gorilla Drive normally costs $39.99, but you can get it for free at checkout with the coupon code BPB-Gorilla100. The offer is limited to 10,000 copies, so it is absolutely worth grabbing sooner rather than later if you want it.
Gorilla Drive is a preamp and overdrive plugin with the character of classic germanium circuits. Safari Pedals describes it as smooth saturation with a controlled response across a wide range of input levels.
If you ask me, this is the kind of plugin you can use for all saturation tasks. It’s great for subtle analog-style thickening, more obvious drive, or parallel saturation when you want to keep some of the original signal.
It fits very nicely on drums, bass, guitars, synths, vocals, or anything else that needs a little extra harmonic content.
The main control is Input, which drives the plugin harder and increases saturation. Output lets you trim the level afterward, which is important with drive plugins because louder almost always feels better for about five seconds before you realize the mix is lying to you.
The most interesting feature for me is the Tone Tilt control. Instead of using separate bass and treble controls, Tone Tilt shifts the overall frequency balance with one knob. You can move toward warmth or brightness without slowing down the workflow.
As already mentioned, Gorilla Drive also includes a Blend control for parallel processing. That is handy if you like the harmonic color but do not want the full wet signal taking over the track. You can push the drive harder, then blend in just enough of the processed signal to add weight or edge.
Another very nice addition is the Auto Gain, which works surprisingly well to help maintain a more consistent perceived loudness while you adjust the input and output levels.
There is also a phase flip control, which can be useful when combining Gorilla Drive with a clean duplicate channel or when checking how the processed signal sits against the original.
The license is perpetual, and Safari Pedals says free updates are included. After purchase, the serial number is delivered by email and also appears in your Safari Audio account. Please note that an internet connection is required for the first activation, but the plugin works offline afterward.
Gorilla Drive is available for macOS and Windows. It runs in AU, VST3, and AAX formats on macOS 10.15 or higher, while the Windows version supports 64-bit VST3 and AAX on Windows 8 and above.
