CapybaraSoftware is offering CapySynth as a free download for 24 hours, with roughly 12 hours left at the time of writing.
Thanks to BPB community member N. Robin for sharing this in the BPB Community. It was perfect timing. I saw the comment as soon as I woke up this morning, so I’m trying to get the word out quickly.
CapySynth normally costs $9.99, but it is currently free through Gumroad. To get it, click the “Get It Free” button on the CapySynth website, complete the free checkout on Gumroad, and the plugin is yours.
Because this is such a short promo, I haven’t had time to test CapySynth as deeply as I normally would before writing about a plugin. First impressions are awesome, though, especially if you’re into chiptune, lo-fi, or synthwave tracks with raw synth sounds and fast arpeggios.
The plugin has a lovely chill vibe.
The interface has pixel art, a beach, a sunset, and an animated capybara walking around. That’s pretty much the perfect combination for me because I love pixel art, beaches, sunsets, synthwave, and quirky music software.
It is definitely not a must-have synth for everyone. But if a plugin makes you smile and gets you inspired to start making music, it has already done something right.
CapySynth is built mainly for lo-fi and synthwave sounds, so don’t expect any crazy synth engine gymnastics here. It’s all about the vibe and giving you those sweet synthwave sounds quickly.
It includes 329 factory presets covering basses, leads, pads, keys, chords, arps, and FX. The arpeggiator side plays a huge part here, and it’s well optimized for quickly getting chiptune-style ideas going.
The synth itself has dual oscillators, 12 wave shapes, wavetable morphing, Mix, Ring, and FM oscillator modes, and a state-variable filter with low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch modes.
You also get 16-voice polyphony, unison up to 16 voices, two LFOs with sine and sample-and-hold shapes, BPM-synced LFO and delay, mod wheel vibrato, reverb, delay, chorus, five distortion modes, and a master bitcrusher called Crush It.
Capybara Mode is a fun little bonus. It adds sub-octave depth, octave shimmer, and supersaw width to any preset, so any patch becomes bigger in one click.
If you’re into chiptune sounds, check out our free BPB 64 synthesizer.
CapySynth is available for macOS 11 or higher in VST3, AU, and standalone formats, with Intel and Apple Silicon support. The Windows version runs on Windows 10/11 in VST3 and standalone formats.
