Karanyi Sounds is offering an exclusive deal on Wavesurfer for Bedroom Producers Blog readers. The plugin normally costs $59, but you can pick it up for $14 until March 27th by entering the coupon code SURFERBPB14 at checkout.
I always liked working with multi-processors. It feels more convenient than slapping multiple plugins on a channel for sure, but more importantly, I think it pushes me to be more creative with sound design.
It kind of forces me to think inside that particular box of effects (even though I have dozens of other plugins in the DAW), and that soft limitation often brings good ideas for combining effects and modulation I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.
So when Karanyi offered this exclusive deal for BPB readers, I was all for it!
Wavesurfer is a modular multi-effects processor with seven drag-and-drop effect modules and four master effects. The modules can be individually bypassed and rearranged in any order, so you can build different effect chains depending on what the sound needs.
The seven modules are Delay, Neural Amp, Autopan, Phaser, Glue, Neural Reverb, and Filter Pulse. Two of those (Neural Amp and Neural Reverb) use Karanyi’s proprietary neural models.
The Neural Amp is a saturation and overdrive effect trained on models of classic and modern analog hardware, including preamps, tape machines, and guitar pedals. It comes with a pre-saturation combo filter and multiple saturation model presets.
The Neural Reverb analyzes your incoming audio when you click the Learn button. It evaluates the signal’s transient content, frequency balance, and spectral range, then automatically adjusts feedback, size, damping, diffusion, modulation depth, and pre-reverb settings behind the scenes. You control the reverb length and dry/wet balance through an X-Y pad.
The remaining modules cover more familiar ground. Let’s cover the modulation options first.
The Delay is tempo-synced with feedback control and filter presets for different tonal characters. The Phaser adds movement with rate and depth controls. The Autopan creates tempo-synced stereo movement with a phase offset for more organic panning.
There’s also a modulated filter and a lovely glow compressor for bringing everything together.
I really like the included Filter Pulse module. It’s a tempo-synced filter modulation effect with a 16-step sequencer where you can choose presets or draw your own patterns, with controls for depth, cutoff, smoothing, and a pre/post routing switch.
On top of the individual modules, the master section includes a combo filter (high-pass/low-pass), a tonal EQ for brightening or darkening the overall character, a stereo imager, and a stereo chorus/wow effect for adding vintage pitch modulation.
Lastly, you get global input gain, output gain, and a master dry/wet control. So the cool thing is that all of this can easily run in parallel with the dry signal.
Wavesurfer is available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS (10.15+, Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows 10+ (64-bit).
