ZigZagzAudio has released Sound Soup, a creative multi-FX plugin for macOS, and BPB readers can get 50% off with the exclusive coupon code BPB50 until February 24th.
Sound Soup is priced at $49.99, but with the BPB50 code, you can grab it at half price until February 24. If you like experimenting with effects in unconventional ways (and especially if you’re a sucker for pixel art like me), this one is worth a closer look.
Of course, the first thing I noticed when checking out Sound Soup was the charmingly retro-inspired pixel art interface. It’s done so well that it feels more like a small video game than an audio processor.
And it’s not just a gimmick. The devs did an amazing job at packing a super versatile multi-effect setup in an interface that absolutely nails the video game vibe.
Instead of loading effects from a standard list, you “throw” ingredients into a cooking pot. There are 18 different ingredients in total, each representing a custom effect. These cover a range of processing types, including reverb, delay, modulation, distortion, and filtering.
The workflow centers on “cooking” or, in other words, stacking and blending these ingredients to create complex chains.
Once you’ve added effects to the pot, you can switch to the Recipe View to tweak each ingredient using one or two dedicated sliders. Parameters are labeled in kitchen-style measurements (cups, teaspoons, etc.), which stay true to the cooking theme while still giving you hands-on control over the sound.
But the fun thing here is that the whole cooking theme makes the whole workflow feel less technical and more intuitive. Adding a few teaspoons of reverb sounds way more fun than “increasing the reverb mix by 10 percent.”
Another cool feature is the ability to create up to three parallel “reductions.” When you click Reduce, the current chain is condensed into a single control that runs in parallel with any new ingredients you add next.
This way, you can easily layer clean and heavily processed signals or build multi-stage effect chains without leaving the plugin.
For more movement, Sound Soup includes up to three assignable LFOs (which are referred to as “spoons”). You can route them to modulate different sliders and sync them to your project.
And the cooking fun doesn’t end there. The plugin also includes five unlockable visual skins, a hidden mini-game, and other secrets to discover. A free demo version is available, which periodically mutes the output.
Sound Soup is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS. A single license covers up to three devices. Don’t forget to use BPB50 at checkout to claim your 50% discount before February 24th.
