FrozenPlain has announced the release of a meticulously sampled virtual instrument for the free and open-source Floe player (macOS/Windows). Dulcitone faithfully recreates the rare and evocative sound of a 19th-century Model F dulcitone.
This launch also marks Floe’s official debut in the competitive field of virtual sample players, establishing it as a powerful and versatile platform for FrozenPlain’s expanding catalogue, and for all developers who wish to contribute to its growth.
With 8 round-robin samples per note, up to 5 velocity layers, and three distinct mallet types — soft for mellow intimacy, rubber for warmth and rounded attack, and wooden for bright, articulate clarity — Dulcitone delivers a characterful tone, a kind of celesta-like tuning-fork piano.
Ideally suited for film scoring, video game soundtracks, and ambient production, Dulcitone ships with 18 expertly-crafted factory presets and integrates seamlessly into Floe (VST3, CLAP, AU).
To coincide with this release, FrozenPlain has also issued a major update to its acclaimed Music Box Suite, enabling existing users to blend its distinctive textures with Dulcitones tonal palette — unlocking new layers of sonic creativity.
Floe provides a complete sound-design environment, featuring a three-layer engine, a rack of ten professional-grade effects, extensive modulation, and a smart preset management system.
Dulcitone is available to purchase now for £30 GBP.
