Echograin has launched Tranzwave Version 2, a major update to its Fizmo-inspired wavetable synth for Kontakt Player.
The new version of Tranzwave refines nearly every aspect of the instrument while expanding its creative potential with deep modulation and randomization features.
Tranzwave was already a solid tool for atmospheric and textural synthesis, but this new update brings it much closer to the unique sound of the Ensoniq Fizmo. That was clearly the goal, and Echograin has achieved it with a more expressive and intuitive design that’s also more fun to use.
For me as a user, the biggest shift is in the modulation engine. Version 2 now introduces a dedicated Modulation Oscillator with FM, PM, and ring mod options.
Each wavetable oscillator can now be modulated in multiple ways, including audio-rate modulation, opening the door to wild spectral transformations.
Another highlight is the expanded macro system. You now get five freely assignable macro controls, each capable of targeting up to 16 parameters. One twist of a macro knob can completely reshape your patch, which is perfect for both live performance and fast sound design.
The FX section has seen a huge upgrade, too.
Tranzwave 2 adds over 100 impulse responses sampled from the original Fizmo’s FX section, now used in its convolution reverb. There are also new creative FX like Chainsaw, Reverse Grain, Kolor, and Beat Masher, alongside updated versions of Replika Delay and others.
Other additions include polyphonic aftertouch support, a second waveformer, expanded routing with per-oscillator output and key zones, oscillator spread modes, and step-sequencer style LFO pulsewidths.
I also really appreciated the new main settings view and tab-based UI navigation. It makes the synth easier to control as a whole, especially when using the extensive randomization engine that lets you target FX, arpeggiator, synth parameters, and more.
If you’ve ever wanted something with the soul of a Fizmo but with a modern workflow and deeper control, this update gets you pretty close. And while it’s still a Kontakt instrument, it doesn’t feel like one in the best way possible.
Echograin really pushed the Kontakt Player format here because Tranzwave truly feels like a standalone plugin.
Tranzwave v2.0 is available now for Kontakt Player 8 and above. It’s currently on sale for €39.20 (20% off the regular price of €49). The update is free for existing users. The instrument is NKS2-ready and works on macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
