A man was charged after police say he fired over 20 shots at OMB Peezy’s van outside StarBar in Raleigh following a performance.
A man has been arrested in connection with a hail of gunfire outside Raleigh’s StarBar that police say was aimed at OMB Peezy following the rapper’s late-night performance.
Ja’Quan Jahmer Whitehurst faces six felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and four counts of shooting into occupied property after allegedly firing more than 20 rounds in the club’s parking lot around 4 a.m. on April 13.
Authorities believe the bullets were meant for OMB Peezy, who had just wrapped up a set at the venue.
No one was hit, but several rounds struck the rapper’s van, according to Raleigh police.
The shooting triggered a broader investigation into StarBar, and the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division cited the club for serving alcohol after legal hours and flagged a pattern of violent incidents at the location.
As a result, the state’s ABC Commission suspended the club’s liquor license.
Whitehurst is being held on a $1 million bond. He appeared in court for a disposition hearing on June 10. His next court date is scheduled for August 5.
According to WRAL, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together what led to the early morning gunfire.
