Lizzo revealed she briefly used Ozempic but found that eating meat again helped her feel full and more in control of her eating habits.
Lizzo said she tried Ozempic during her weight-loss journey but ultimately found that returning to a diet of meat and whole foods made a bigger difference in her health.
The Grammy-winning artist, 37, shared the details during a conversation with Trisha Paytas on the Just Trish podcast, revealing she briefly experimented with the diabetes drug, which has gained popularity for its appetite-suppressing effects.
“I tried everything,” Lizzo said. “Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full. But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same thing.”
The “Good as Hell” singer has been publicly documenting her wellness efforts since 2023, frequently discussing body image and health on social media.
While Ozempic helped curb her appetite, she said the real shift came when she gave up veganism and reintroduced animal protein into her meals.
“What did it for me is, it was not being vegan,” she said. “Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats, I was eating a lot of bread, I was eating a lot of rice and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full.”
Lizzo explained that processed plant-based foods left her feeling unsatisfied, which led to overeating. Once she pivoted to whole foods, such as beef, chicken, and fish, she noticed a meaningful change.
“When I started actually eating whole foods and eating, like, beef and chicken and fish,” she said. “I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up.”
Despite stepping away from Ozempic, Lizzo pushed back on the idea that using the medication is a shortcut or an unfair advantage.
“I think people – it’s their way of being fat phobic when you’re telling someone they’re cheating,” she said.
Ozempic, a GLP-1 receptor agonist originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, has become a controversial weight-loss tool in recent years, with celebrities and influencers both embracing and criticizing its use.
