Ye says Shopify is holding on to a hefty amount of his money.
The rapper formerly known as Kanye West tweeted about the matter on Saturday, writing, “Shopify is currently holding 4 million dollars of mine.”
“Just to put it in question form. Who do you think Shopify is ran by 🧐🤔,” he wrote in a separate post.
Although it’s not abundantly clear what Ye is insinuating with his latter comment, Shopify co-founder and CEO Tobias Lütke did not respond to his tweets on his X account.
The online Yeezy shop, once hosted by the popular e-commerce platform, was shut down after the rapper—who proclaimed he is “a Nazi” and shared his “love” for Hitler—directed fans to a swastika t-shirt during a regional Super Bowl ad in February.
In a statement shared with CBS MoneyWatch, a rep for Shopify confirmed the Yeezy.com was taken down due to a violation of the platform’s terms.
“All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform. This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify,” read a statement.
Ye once had a lucrative partnership with Adidas, which began in 2016 and led to the successful Yeezy footwear line.
The athletic apparel brand at one point called it, “the most significant partnership ever created between an athletic brand and a non-athlete.”
However, Adidas terminated their deal in October 2022 after Ye made a series of antisemitic remarks.
“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” the statement read at the time. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect, and fairness.”
