Developer Fracture Sounds has released Blueprint: Electric Strings, their latest free vintage string synth for Kontakt Player.
In my last post, I incorrectly stated that the excellent cinematic library, Arrival, was compatible with the free Kontakt Player, and it’s not (I convinced myself that Pianobook libraries were always compatible).
If any of you have read the title above and thought, “Is it really for Kontakt Player?” I understand, and as a result, I feel like Brick Top from the movie Snatch, when he told bettors that his fighter would take a dive, but he didn’t.
The point is, this time, he will go down in the fourth round; I mean, it is most definitely compatible with the free Kontakt 8 Player.
Electric Strings is the latest addition to the free Blueprint series and delivers the sound of a vintage Solina electric string synth.
Electric Strings features the Fracture Sounds Layer Blends Engine, allowing you to blend up to three sound layers simultaneously.
There are two types of layers: Originals and Atmospheres.
Originals focus on the authentic sound of the Solina synth and its built-in effects. The default Strings patch is lovely; it gets quite gritty in the lower range; it’s like the sound of the future from the 1970s.
You also get the original string sound layered with horn/trumpet stops, paired with the built-in chorus effect, and run through various outboard gear.
Fracture Sounds ran the same samples through different guitar pedals and effects to create nine distinct Atmosphere layers.
The Atmosphere layers are dreamier, but they aren’t all lush and ethereal; some maintain quite edgy textures, which I like.
The cool thing about the Layer Blends Engine is that you can use Dynamics (MIDI CC1/Mod Wheel) to introduce the second and third layers gradually. You have complete control over the evolution of the sound, and it works very well.
The interface includes global Attack/Release, Filter, Delay, and Reverb controls.
There’s a Lo-Fi control to make the sound even grittier and a Sub control to add a sub-bass layer to the entire sound.
I believe Electric Strings is the twentieth addition to the Blueprint series, and it’s been nothing short of exceptional to date.
Electric Strings is a versatile library; it suits everything from ambient soundtracks to disco to pop, jazz, soul, and beyond.
